The Western Cape hosts Koeberg, Africa's only nuclear power station, near Cape Town, along with the Ankerlig, Gourikwa and Acacia gas turbine stations and the Palmiet pumped storage scheme. NERSA licences split Cape Town between the City and Eskom, so faults in Eskom areas must be reported to Eskom. The City's Steenbras scheme shielded its customers from more than 1,100 of Eskom's 1,900 load-shedding hours between February and September 2022. Damaging winds are the most common warning from SAWS's Western Cape office, at 43 of 102.
