Biggest Minnesota power outages since 2014

Statewide outage events recorded by DOE's EAGLE-I system since late 2014, with likely causes from NOAA storm reports

The largest power outage in Minnesota since 2014 (Aug 27–31, 2024) left as many as 155,534 customers (5.64% of the state) without power at once, driven by severe thunderstorms. The next largest (Jul 28–30, 2025) peaked at 141,752 customers (Severe thunderstorms).

By EAGLE-I's count, Minnesota customers averaged about 2 hr 46 min without power per year from 2018 to 2025. The worst year was 2024, at 3 hr 57 min per customer.

Outages peak in July (18% of outage time). Outage time in Minnesota has risen recently: about 3 hr 37 min per customer per year in 2022–2025, versus 1 hr 55 min in 2018–2021.
