Eskom's large Medupi and Matimba coal stations are at Lephalale. Medupi Unit 4 was out from a generator explosion in August 2021 until July 2025. Polokwane Municipality supplies its own licence area, with Eskom licensed elsewhere in the municipality, and it reports widespread theft of cables and other infrastructure. Floods in early 2026 affected Eskom customers here too.
