Statewide outage events recorded by DOE's EAGLE-I system since late 2014, with likely causes from NOAA storm reports

The largest power outage in Michigan since 2014 (Aug 9–17, 2021) left as many as 873,852 customers (18.05% of the state) without power at once, driven by severe thunderstorms. The next largest (Feb 22 – Mar 6, 2023) peaked at 839,576 customers (Winter storm).

By EAGLE-I's count, Michigan customers averaged about 14 hr 40 min without power per year from 2018 to 2025. The worst year was 2021, at 26 hr 38 min per customer.

Outages peak in August (23% of outage time). Outage time in Michigan has held roughly steady recently: about 14 hr 36 min per customer per year in 2022–2025, versus 14 hr 44 min in 2018–2021.
